MAYOR’S FOREWORD
His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Mbekezeli Emanuel Zondo
I assumed office on 30 June 2025 under the banner of the IFP, EFF and NAPF coalition, fully aware of the immense responsibility entrusted to me by the people of Nongoma. Our beautiful municipality carries a rich history, deep cultural heritage and resilient communities; yet it continues to face pressing challenges relating to service delivery, infrastructure development and the provision of basic services. It is against this backdrop that our administration has committed itself to leading with purpose, urgency and accountability.
From the outset, we have made it clear that improving road infrastructure is one of our highest priorities. For far too long, many of our wards have struggled with poor or inaccessible roads, limiting mobility, hindering economic activity and compromising access to essential services. Our goal is to ensure that all 23 wards of Nongoma Municipality have functional, reliable and well-maintained access roads that support development and improve quality of life.
Equally, we will work closely with the Zululand District Municipality to improve access to clean and consistent water supply. Water remains a fundamental human right, and no community should be left behind in this regard. Strengthening intergovernmental collaboration will help us accelerate solutions and deliver meaningful change where it matters most.
Restoring dignity to our communities is central to our mission. Many traditional leaders and community members have long relied on holding important meetings under trees due to the absence of proper facilities. Our administration is committed to building decent, accessible and well-equipped community halls across the municipality, bringing services and infrastructure closer to our people.
This government is founded on trust, unity and collective action. We call upon all stakeholders—including municipal officials, community structures and partners—to work hand in hand in ensuring that service delivery is efficient, transparent and community-centred. We will also prioritise sports and recreation initiatives, recognising their role in youth development, social cohesion and community wellness. The health and safety of our people remain non-negotiable.
Strengthening partnerships with traditional leadership across the Mandlakazi, eMatheni and Osuthu Tribal Authorities is a cornerstone of our governance approach. We are inspired by the teachings of the statesman and the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi (MHSRIP), striving to lead with diligence, integrity and wisdom.
